On September 15, 2020 we received a call that no parent should ever have to receive. My husband and I received the calls separately as we were both working. We were informed that our youngest son Carter had taken his own life. Within seconds our world was turned upside down and it all together, just stopped turning. How could this have happened? I had just seen him this morning before I left for work. He had been home as MHS students were still not participating in active classes after the pandemic. The night before we had dinner together as a family as our older son Blake was over to do laundry. The Saturday before he attended bible study with us and went to church with me on Sunday. He was nothing but his easy going, fun loving, laid back teenage boy that he’d always been. Never without a smile on his face! So HOW!!! How could we go from that…to this, in the blink of an eye? Our son is gone? And he did it…to himself? How, why, when, WHY, WHY, WHY?????!!!!!!??? All the question, the quilt, the feeling hopelessness that takes over is beyond words.

At Carter’s Ride we have walked through (and continue) the darkest days of our lives after the loss of our beloved son Carter. By creating Carter’s Ride, our hope was to help other families just like ours who have lost a child to suicide. To give them the support that they need during their darkest hours by providing immediate financial and emotional support. Linking families to other community resources that focus on loss by suicide including local grief groups and counseling with a focus on EMDR therapy. We know that after a loss like this you are LOST. We hope to help be a guide in your grieving and healing process.
